Travel as part of academic studies

As part of your university studies, in most countries you will have the opportunity to study abroad for at least one semester at a partner university abroad. This is to study the same or related subjects accredited by the host university. There are several ways in which students can travel, and it is up to the student to choose the specific method. The most common is an Erasmus or bilateral agreement. The application process for any study abroad program is quite extensive. Depending on where you apply, proof of language proficiency may be required. Additionally, in many cases, an interview is conducted as part of the application process to clarify the student\’s motivation for going abroad.

For art majors, a portfolio of work is also part of the admission process. Grade point averages also play an important role, and other activities in which the student has demonstrated an interest are also considered. For example, enrollment in language electives and participation in international student adjustment programs. If a student is nominated by his or her home university to travel, a significant amount of paperwork and contact must also be made with the foreign university. The student receives a stipend, depending on which country he or she is going to. This money will cover most expenses, including lodging and food.

However, even this scholarship may not be sufficient and the student must arrange part-time work in that country. They also need to choose courses that are approved for credit at the school where they will study. A stay abroad at a school in a related field can open up a whole new perspective for the student. They can make many new contacts and friends, and gain an understanding of the field of study and the educational system in a country other than their own. Even if it is in a language other than one\’s native tongue, it is certainly an experience that fosters independence and the ability to cope with unusual situations.
